ZEN TEA CEREMONY

Randy Channell Soei moved to Japan from Canada in 1985 to study martial arts. To balance his training, he soon began to study Chanoyu, the "Way of Tea." Though he no longer teaches martial arts, he is now the highest-ranked non-Japanese teacher within the Urasenke tea ceremony tradition in Japan, actively spreading the way of the traditional tea ceremony to both Japanese and foreigners in Kyoto, Japan. He is the author of the upcoming A Beginner's Guide to the Zen Tea Ceremony (October 2021).

GARDENS & HISTORIC SITES

John Dougill has taught in the Middle East, the UK and in Japan for the past twenty years, where he is currently professor emeritus at Ryukoku University in Kyoto. GEEK CULTURE 

Gianni Simone is a Japan correspondent for Vogue Italia and regularly contributes to a number of Italian, French and English newspapers, magazines and websites including The Japan Times, Metropolis, Animation Magazine and CNN Go. He is the author of Tokyo Geek’s Guide and the forthcoming Otaku Japan Travel Guide (June 2021). He is active in the mail art community and opened the Stickerman Museum - Tokyo Annex, which focuses on the art. Available for interviews in English and Italian.

THE CELEBRATION OF PEACE

Masahiro Sasaki, brother of Sadako Sasaki, has been a peace activist since his teens. For the last two decades, he has dedicated himself to keeping his sister’s memory alive by sharing her true story. The Complete Story of Sadako Sasaki and the Thousand Paper Cranes is a recount of this story and was co-authored with Sue DiCicco, a prolific author and illustrator of children's books and founder of The Peace Crane Project.

Jonathan Clements is the author of many books on East Asian history, including A Brief History of Japan, as well as biographies of emperors, foreign visitors and outcast rebels. His works have been translated into over a dozen languages, including French, Spanish, Korean and Dutch. He's been a consultant and talking head on TV programs including Emperor's Ghost Army (PBS/Nova), Raiders of the Jade Empire (Smithsonian) and, in 2016, he became the presenter of Route Awakening (National Geographic).

SAMURAI HISTORY & CULTURE

Jonathan Lopez-Vera has a PhD in Japanese History and an MA in World History from Pompeu Fabra University (Spain). In 2011 he launched the website historiajaponesa.com to bring Japanese history to anyone who was interested. He is the founder of Asiadémica, an academic journal of studies on East Asia and the author of the book A History of the SamuraiAvailable for interviews in English and Spanish.
